Skrin (Shouts)
– a violin concerto

The Swedish word 'skrin' has a double meaning of shriek and box. This concert is the result of a cooperation between Sven Ahlbäck and Karin Rehnqvist. The idea was to explore the possibilities of using violin techniques and other stylistic features of Swedish fiddle music in creating new music.

The violin solo part is written by Sven Ahlbäck and the orchestral parts by Karin Rehnqvist, though some parts are worked out together. The piece has three parts: the first named skrin, the second koral (Chorale) and third grovt och grant, which means rough/coarse and fine or simply low and high.
